About

Hand on etching press

Oliver Hoffmeister (b.1995 Chesterfield, UK) is a painter and printmaker based between Newcastle and London. After graduating from the Royal Drawing School, UK, Hoffmeister was nominated to partake in a six week residency at The Museo Del Prado in Madrid as part of The Richard Ford Award, funded by The Richard Ford Foundation. During this award, he was able to spend time privately with some of the original etchings and drawings by Francisco Goya. Many of these were not on public display at that time. Looking at these intricate and often comparitively diminutive etchings made Hoffmeister lust to create etchings of his own and began his contemplation around the ethos of small print. This is the impetus of the Monthly Print Club.

What is It?

close up etching

Each month, Hoffmeister will create a new etching. This will then be uploaded to the product page for purchase.

Each month's print will be available to purchase via pre-order as an exclusive run based on demand. Additionally, I will always print 6 extra each month on top of the edition, so that people who missed out on a month can still purchase that print but for a higher cost. It pays to get the etching whilst it's featured that month.

This means that if 10 people order then the edition will be 16, hence reflecting the amount ordered. This means that some months prints may be parts of smaller runs and therefore rarer.

Handmade Printing Press

Hoffmeister has always dreamt of owning his own printing press. A dream he nearly realised when a small secondhand table top etching press came on the market for a very affordable price. He contacted the seller and was told that the press was his, however, on the day hoffmeister was supossed to collect the press the seller messaged him to let him know that it had been sold to another buyer. This experiance made him rethink how he could own a press affordably and after some reseach he came across pasta roller printing presses. These are handmade presses using a pasta roller and some inventive thinking.

Handmade press

It is on this homemade etching press that all of the prints for the monthly print club are printed.
